The SASSA Child Support Grant is a monthly financial lifeline to primary child-under-18 caregivers in South Africa for some of their most basic expenses. In December 2025, the grant is being given to meet those extra festive expenses of food, clothing, and schooling.
What is the Child Support Grant?

New Grant Amount in December 2025
Due to the recent adjustment, the Child Support Grant is currently at R530 a month for each qualifying child. In addition, payments will be disbursed to caregivers for up to a maximum of six children who are not biologically theirs.
December Payment Date
SASSA shows payments for Child Support Grants falling on Thursday, 4 December, 2025. It ensures funds are made available on that date at banks or SoCo point-of-presence centers to avoid closure problems.
Qualifications and How to Apply
The primary caregiver must be a South African citizen, a permanent resident, or a refugee. The child must be under 18, not in state care, and the household must pass the means test based on the income and assets to get the grant.
